Aquatic Barley Straw Applications
Combining Barley Straw Extract with Barley Straw Bales

After a pond clean, re-fill or prior to algae first appearing in ponds or dams, Aquatic Barley Straw Extract should be first applied to provide fast acting new algae growth suppression. At the same time Aquatic Barley Straw Bales should be added.

As Aquatic Barley Straw Bales can take from 4 to 8 weeks to become active, Aquatic Barley Straw Extract should be applied weekly (at the correct application rate) for the first 8 weeks.

For stubborn problematic ponds or dams Aquatic Barley Straw Extract can be applied ongoing in conjunction with Aquatic Barley Straw Bales.

Directions

Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is best applied before algae appears. Determine the volume of water to be treated, shake container to mix (some sediment in the liquid is normal), measure the required amount of product and pour directly into the water body to be treated.

The application should be repeated on a weekly basis until the Barley Straw Bail begins to take effect (ie: repeat weekly for 8 weeks).

The Barley Straw Bale should also be placed in the pond or dam (in conjunction with the Barley Straw Extract) to prevent algae growth.

The effect of the Barley Straw Bale will begin, depending on water temperature, in around 4 to 8 weeks and should be replaced every 4 to 6 months.

Application Rates

Using Aquatic Barley Straw Extract in conjunction with Aquatic Barley Straw Bales

Aquatic Barley Straw Extract –

For small outdoor ponds, fountains or water feature, less than 2,000L:
Apply an initial dosage of 20mL of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 100L water or part thereof and apply weekly at a maintenance dosage of 15mL per 100L water or part thereof for 8 weeks.
For larger ponds and dams, greater than 2,000L but less than 10,000L:
Apply an initial dosage of 60mL of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 2,000L water or part thereof and apply weekly for 8 weeks.
For water with high turbidity, or poor water clarity apply an additional 20% more product, until clarity improves.

Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is available in various container sizes appropriate for your application:

500mL with an easy measuring and pour container for small ponds, fountains, water features and garden water tanks
1L container for medium size ponds
5L container for larger ponds and small dams
20L containers for lakes and dams

Aquatic Barley Straw Bales –

1kg Aquatic Barley Straw Bale will treat a pond of 20 square metres in surface area, regardless of water depth.
Submerge the Aquatic Barley Straw Bale complete with net bag and allow bag to float close to the waters surface.
Place near well oxygenated areas of the pond (eg: close to waterfalls or pumps) or in the centre of the pond.
Replace Aquatic Barley Straw Bales every 4 to 6 months.
To maintain effectiveness, begin additional treatments one month prior to removing the previous treatment.
Barley straw tends to become active in 2 weeks and effective in 4 to 6 weeks for water temperatures above 20 degrees. Water temperatures below
10 degrees activation times are around 6 to 8 weeks and become effective in
8 to 10 weeks.
If the bales begin to smell, then application rate is too high. Remove and replace with a lower rate. If net bag holes are restricted, clear by shaking
or washing in pond water.
